Seriously. They sent a letter to Ben & Jerry’s last week. Here are some of the best parts…
On behalf of PETA and our more than 2 million members and supporters, I’d like to bring your attention to an innovative new idea…that would bring a unique twist to Ben and Jerry’s. If Ben and Jerry’s replaced the cow’s milk in its ice cream with breast milk, your customers – and cows – would reap the benefits…Using cow’s milk for your ice cream is a hazard to your customer’s health. Dairy products have been linked to juvenile diabetes, allergies, constipation, obesity, and prostate and ovarian cancer…The breast is best! Won’t you give cows and their babies a break and our health a boost by switching from cow’s milk to breast milk in Ben and Jerry’s ice cream? [full letter]
While I do agree that “the breast is best” the rest of this is just insane. Why do all of these organizations that start out with such good and honorable intentions like PETA and the ACLU turn into the biggest nutjobs on the planet?
I love how they say that dairy products have been linked to “juvenile diabetes, allergies, constipation, obesity, and prostate and ovarian cancer”. Are they just making shit up now? I slept through most of college but I do remember once hearing that correlation does not equal causation, and I think it applies here.
I’m surprised they didn’t say “It’s a well documented fact that everyone throughout recorded history who has consumed cow’s milk has eventually died.”

Actually, there have been studies linking cow’s milk to a wide number of human defects and faults. Though I still think this breast milk idea is too hairbrained to be considered sane.
Actually said studies have been discredited repeatedly. By entire countries, such as large parts of Europe, where cows milk is a staple part of the diet yet these problems are no more prevalent than anywhere else.
PETA never started out good – they just had a good concept. I mean, ethical treatment of animals. Good idea! Make it so!..
But of course their actual gameplan is to STOP ALL ANIMAL PRODUCTS. Make every single one of us a vegan. They want us to stop testing medicine on animals, even if it saves millions of lives. They want us to stop eating eggs, they want us to stop drinking milk. And they want us to stop having pets.
Yes, that is right – PETA is against pets. No more cats or dogs in the house, no more rats or ferrets or cows or pigs or anything.
So… good start? No. Ethical treatment of animals = good idea. PETA = People wanting us to not kill mosquitoes because “they are people too”. Yeah… right.
Which is why I support the other PETA – People for the Eating of Tasty Animals.
Even if they did stretch the truth (find some hard evidence proving otherwise) they still did exactly what they wanted to: they got you talking. I’m sure they realize americans get pretty queasy when talking about breast milk (they’re not stupid, regardless of what the non-activists would believe). I’m sure all they are trying to say is that at least the humans would have a *choice* in the matter. Cows are quite intelligent (much more than you would think if you eat them all the time) and go through mourning process when they lose their young. Yes, any animal doesn’t just make milk for the hell of it- they’re making it for the baby they just put out.
And, Mr. “People for the Eating of Tasty Animals”- you’re not original or funny in the slightest. You can read the post here : http://thosedamnvegans.com/?p=72 We made it just for you.
I agree with almost everything you say. I’m still going to eat meat though.
